Welcome to the SWIG Website
Welcome to the website for the Sensors for Water Interest Group, SWIG.
SWIG is a not for profit information, ideas-exchange, and networking group with a diverse UK-wide membership drawn from the water and process industries, sensor manufacturers and their distributers, academic institutions involved in sensor research, regulatory bodies and consultants working in the field of water management.
SWIG focuses on the use of sensor and associated technologies for measurement and control in water and wastewater treatment processes and infrastructure, as well as in natural environments and waters.
Our networking activities include a varied programme of technical workshops covering all aspects of water sensing, which offer a cost-effective means of keeping up-to-date with sensor developments, new technologies and regulations, whilst fostering collaboration between parties. Invited speakers and enthusiastic audiences are able to debate the practical applications and current challenges for measurement and control in water and wastewater.

SWIG workshop hailed a success! On March 6th SWIG put together a group of experts in the field of odour measurement and management and the result was some very informative discussion as acknowledged by ATi , who kindly hosted the event. |
SWIG 'Early Career Researcher Prize' We are pleased to announce the winner of the Early Career Researcher Prize 2012 is: Andrew Nichols of the University of Bradford for his research into Monitoring of Wastewater Flows by Remote Measurement of the Free Surface 'Fingerprint'. Andrew's poster can be viewed here . Andy Nichols receiving First Prize from Richard Luxton, Chairman of SWIG at WWEM, 7th November 2012 Abstracts for the above top three projects can be viewed here. Thank you again for all the entries we received this year - the quality of entries was very high this year and the ranking of posters was very close. The next Early Career Poster Competition will be run in 2014 to coincide with WWEM again. |
Call for papers: The conference will examine the design and application of recent research and development of potential commercial sensors for monitoring (bio)medical, industrial and environmental processes. Sessions will feature invited presentations on the topics selected from the response to the call for papers. Deadline for abstracts for the poster session: 29 May 2013 For further information about the call for papers or to register, please see the website

Call for proposals: Clean Water For All: UK/US call This call invites proposals for collaborations between academic groups in the UK and the USA in the area of Water Engineering. The call is placed within the context of the global grand challenges of Resilience and Sustainability identified at a recent international summit. The collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of the call aims to encourage proposals that bring different, complementary sets of knowledge, skills and experience together, and which add value to existing engineering research activities. The total funding from EPSRC is approx £1-2 million. Closing date: 30 May 2013 For further information, see the website . |
Call for proposals: Life+ 2013 Call for Proposals (Up to €278m available from the European Commission) For further information see the website |
Call for proposals: Networks in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy (Up to £15m has been allocated for this network initiative) For further information see the website |
