Holywell Park Conference Centre & Burleigh Court Hotel, Loughborough, UK
24-25 Sept 2025

On 24–25 September at Holywell Park, Loughborough, Sensing in Water 2025 (SiW25) brought together the water sensing community across utilities, supply chain, academia and regulators for two days of practical insight, lively debate and hands-on learning. Across four themed conference sessions and four interactive workshops, we explored how sensing, data and digital tools are improving real-world outcomes in water and wastewater, from smart instrumentation and system awareness to compliance, IT/OT convergence and decision support.

Conference sessions

The conference programme offered a balance of technical insight and practical application. Topics ranged from real-time monitoring and digital integration to environmental regulation and the challenges of turning data into decisions. Our sincere thanks go to Mike Strahand, who chaired the whole event with his usual energy and enthusiasm, and to our session chairs Mike Sparrey, Rich Bragg, Darren Coleman, Sarah Brooks and Oliver Grievson for guiding discussion and encouraging lively debate.

We are grateful to Badger Meter for sponsoring the conference sessions and helping us bring together such a strong technical programme.

Workshops – new for 2025

This year we introduced interactive workshops alongside the main conference sessions, giving delegates the chance to dive deeper into key topics and share practical experience. The response was fantastic, with workshops quickly becoming one of the most popular parts of the programme. A big thank-you goes to our workshop leaders and facilitators Rob Stevens, Kat Dobbs, Sarah Brooks, Leo Carswell, Richard Luxton and Andy Nichols for shaping these sessions and making them such a success.

Keynotes

We were delighted to welcome Piers Clark (Isle Utilities Group) and Lizzie Frost (Anglian Water) as keynote speakers. Their perspectives on collaboration, resilience and the future of water management set the tone for two days of inspiring conversation.

Early Career Researcher Poster Competition

Congratulations to finalists Milad Latifi, Zhouhui Lu and Alexander Osborne, who presented outstanding research to an expert audience. Thank you to Arqiva for generously sponsoring the award.

Gala Dinner and networking

The exhibition, poster session and evening Gala Dinner provided plenty of opportunities to connect. Delegates enjoyed continuing discussions in a more relaxed setting, celebrating the achievements and collaborative spirit of the SWIG community.

We extend our thanks to Proteus Instruments for sponsoring the evening dinner and entertainment, UDlive for sponsoring the pre-dinner drinks reception, and VEGA for supporting the daytime lunches. Their generosity helped make these shared moments possible.
